Translation:A Panchayat is a collective body of elected representatives responsible for carrying out the administrative functions of Panchayati Raj institutions. In the case of a Gram Panchayat, it is the principal committee that implements the decisions of the Gram Sabha and manages day-to-day governance.The main components of a Panchayat are:President: The head of the Panchayat. The President presides over meetings and oversees the overall functioning of the Panchayat.Vice President: Performs the duties of the President in their absence.Ward Members: Elected representatives from each ward within the Panchayat.Standing Committees: Subcommittees formed to facilitate decision-making in specific areas such as finance, development, welfare, health, and education.

History

Until 1762, Aroor was part of the Kingdom of Cochin. Situated in Kerala’s sandy coastal belt, Aroor is considered one of the land areas that were formed relatively later. The Karthyayani Temple occupies a central place in the history of Aroor. According to local legend, Vilwamangalam Swamiyar consecrated the deity here following a divine vision. The Araya fishing community also played a significant role in the construction of the temple. In 1663, the Dutch invasion led to the destruction of temples in the area, forcing many Brahmin families to leave. Subsequently, people from various communities settled in Aroor.
